Some Rain Must Fall
2022 - ongoing
Amidst the rapid advancement of image-making technology, the photograph, with its unique indexical relation to reality, continues to hold immense value and significance. The indexical quality of the photography – its capacity to bear witness to the physical world and the spatio-temporal relationship between the photographer, the subject, and the moment of capture – imbues the image with a profound emotional resonance.
In this series, I explore memories and emotions embedded in photographs I have taken or collected from family archives. Their inherent imperfections—noise, low resolution, motion blur, and lack of focus—often parallel life’s uncertainties and regrets we encounter in life. Using 3D modeling, I expand these flawed images into virtual spaces, infusing them with personal experiences and nostalgia. Rendered in a hyper-realistic style, these digital environments offer a more controlled, idealized realm distinct from physical reality. Through this process, I reflect on my personal desires, as well as the ambiguities and setbacks in life, while embracing both photography’s documentary essence and the transformative potential of digital media.
